2025 Review

So this is my 10th year of blogging! And it's scary to realise that it's been 5+ years since I graduated.

My job didn't change, I didn't win TOTO, and I haven't done any lucrative businesses this year. So I'm still just a regular adult with a regular job! Read on if you are still interested. (Anyway I'm writing this post in Taiwan now cos I tagged along my friend who's watching 6 x Mayday concerts in Taichung so she settled all the accomodations hehe)

People usually have two modes: office mode and non-office mode right? But it feels like I'm doing a lot of work during non-office hours, sometimes because I wanna challenge myself, or I wanted to impress people, or simply because I couldn't finish my work during office hours. xD Nevertheless, all these out of job scope OTs helped me to learn different skills. I'm just worried that I'm putting too much of myself into work stuff and neglect my friends and family haha. It's so hard. I used to feel guilty for lying in bed doing nothing, because people say "if you don't move forward, you get pushed backwards". But I guess I felt mentally exhausted along the way and started to feel less guilty for being lazy. So here I am typing this post in bed!

It's easier if I split my review into months since the stuff I did/started halfway were quite diverse this year! Ok they are more like the highlights of the month.

Jan - Got sick multiple times and even got mild bronchitis after I came back from Malaysia for CNY

Feb - Finished my Specialist Diploma in Data Science (Artificial Intelligence) from Singapore Polytechnic

March - Went India for work trip!!

April - Distributed the 800+ bags I ordered for the whole company. Started to learn photography from books and two ppl at work. Oh I'm still really bad at them, this is my latest pic that I haven't sent to anyone.
Taken in Tainan using Nikon D700 with 50mm lens

May - Boss' boss lent me 80-200mm zoom lens to take wildlife photos! So here's one zoo pic.
June - Went Germany for work trip!! Also got tasked to work with two colleagues to churn out 50 shirt designs.

July - took a gap 1.5 weeks to hide in a room outside my house because I didn't want to work. Ended up doing 40% of the AIAP foundation course and designed more than 80% of the shirts. (Yes equal division of workload in a group is a myth)

August - got scratched by a monkey! This is the latest scar tissue after 4.5 months because the fresh wound is too gross.
Also my first time doing a 1-minute solo in the community club chinese orchestra that I joined in 2010 hehe. Yep I suck even during that solo hehe but I thick-skinned just don't ask me how was it.

September - Completed the Materials Characterisation course by SIMtech!
Got roped into another more troublesome project (group work again!)

October - Went UK for work trip!!
Got colleagues to choose the designs they wanted and printed out their shirts. I will upload the designs here if I ever change job hehe.

November - Went bowling with colleagues for the first time. Yes I'm bad at it too. Also my first time conducting a 3-hour theory and practical lesson to 18 adults (or barely adults) yessss finally put my ACLP cert to good use. I had to do public speaking for an hour sia!

December - This 12-day Taiwan trip of course!

So in the end I developed camera skills, adobe Photoshop and illustrator skills, public speaking skills which are all unrelated to work. And my AIAP foundation course validity is ending soon which I won't be able to complete. Ok at least I finished the Material Characterisation course which helped with work a little?

I read 11 books (including the photography books)from boss' boss this year and watched many shows! (Slow horses, Al Pacino movies, Killing Eve, Pluribus) But I also read quite a few of my own books like The art of Uncertainty, Hidden Games, Hands-on Large Language models (for work project) and financial intelligence for non-finance managers. Eh don't misunderstand hor I actually have friends and we do regular stuff together, like eat hotpot, sing ktv, watch movies!

Also, all the group work I got assigned and the leadership books boss' boss recommended made me think a lot on how to get people to do things willingly. How to maximize their strengths so that they can feel useful and contribute more? Haha I suck at this, and now it just feels like I'm reaching for something I'm not qualified for. But then again the thicker your skin is, the faster you learn. So I'll try to assert myself more next year even if I'm being embarrassing :D

To conclude, I left planned things unfinished but also finished things that I never planned. I guess that's why my mbti always ends with P xD. I get more afraid of running out of time after each yearly review, because some of my friends/classmates alr have kids while I'm just here obsessing over random things. I guess I'll just try to save more money so that I can prepare for anything that I decide to do in the future.

You are not mistaken if I sound more lost every year hehe. Feels like I put in a lot of my time and energy but not getting much response. Am I spending them in the correct areas? What do I really want to achieve?

Omg btw boss' boss shared about 6 7 in one of our monthly meetings omg damn funny.

ANYWAY HAPPY NEW YEAR AND GOODBYE 2025.
